Welcome to our PracticeThe Team Here to help you We are a small friendly, forward thinking practice and have been established in Killingworth for over 25 years. Dr Mark Preston and Dr Angela Austin are a husband and wife partnership who are able to offer a wide range of services, including minor surgery, joint injections, Implanon contraceptive hormone implants and coil fittings Part Time GP, Dr Jane Chalmers is an experienced GP having worked in other Practices. Dr Chalmers is able to offer Implanon contraceptive hormone implants/removals, coil fitting and some minor surgery. Our Practice Nurses (Sr Gill Humble and Sr Kath Rose), are involved in specialist clinics and can offer a full range of care for patients with long term special needs, particularly those with asthma, COPD, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Our nurses also undertake ear syringing, cervical smears, baby and travel immunisation, family planning and contraception advice. Kath can also insert/remove implants and coil removals. Both can offer general dietary and lifestyle advice. Our Health Care Assistant (Mrs Vicky Swaile) also supports Gill and Kath with the above and can also offer flu, Pneumovax and B12 injections, general healthcare advice, smoking cessation, foot screening, blood pressure checks, phlebotomy (taking bloods), and new patient checks. Vicky has the honour of being able to get blood painlessly where others have failed! Our District Nursing Team (Claire, Tracy, Denise and Joanne) provide health care to the housebound and terminally ill as well as treatment at our surgery and also advise about care and convalescence following discharge from hospital. Attached Health Visitors Christine Gill & Sue Rowland are here to help families particularly those with babies and small children. Midwife Sr. Sue Armitage runs antenatal clinics and helps with all aspects of maternity care. The Admin/Reception Staff normally your first point of contact with the practice are Cath, Chris, Jennera, Carol, Joanne and Susan. Like that well known supermarket - always happy to help. Susan and Joanne also have extra skills having been fully trained to perform phlebotomy (taking bloods) and take blood pressure readings so are able to offer these services when we are extra busy or when Vicky our Health Care Assistant is unavailable. Joanne has also been fully trained to perform ear syringing, again to provide an extra service during busy periods. Practice Manager - Mrs Jane Burns - is happy to discuss any suggestions, comments or complaints you might have. At different times during the week we also provide the specialised services of a Counsellor, Psychologist, Mental Health Care Worker, and Physiotherapist. Our practice based philosophy is to provide the highest quality primary health care to our patients and value the concept of the 'family doctor'. Teaching The practice occasionally undertakes the training of medical students or persons intending to become health care professionals. You may occasionally be asked if a student can sit in at your consultation. if you're not happy with this, for whatever reason, please say so - it is your choice if you wish to be seen alone during the consultation.
